104 years and still going
Waldo McBurney was just been honored as America's oldest worker. The 104-year-old man works a bee-keeper, at one point tending as many as 100 colonies. Waldo graduated in 1927 from what is now K-Sate; he now lives in Quinter, Kansas. At 80, he set the Kansas state record for the ten-mile run in his age group. When asked if he was considering retiring he replied, "I can't find it in my Bible." By the way, Waldo is the father of our previous pastor.

One hundred and four ?!?
I really, really, really want to meet Waldo McBurney sometime.... I've heard so many good things about him. :)
With regards to chamber music for Saturday, I've found about six pieces that would be fun to play, but since most of them are just for a string quartet, I've only printed off two pieces: Mozart's Andante in C Major for flute (that has all kinds of individual parts... flutes, oboes, horns -- well, I think horns... it calls them cornets, cello, viola, violins...) and the full Bach double concerto (which includes a cello part and viola part). It took me FOREVER to find any pieces that were for more instruments than just a quartet, but yet not major orchestral works such as overtures, symphonies, ect... >_< It was fun searching, though... I had two google browsers up... one searching for ensemble sheet music, the other for sound clips of the pieces I'd found.
Oh, and I found a site called Audio Clip Library in the process... and it has all kinds of mp3s on it! Of course that registered in my mind directly as xanga music (I've been looking forever... I'm serious), so I was very excited about that. :)
I also found the Brandenburg Concertos, which would be very fun to play sometime, except that we would need three violins, three violas, and three cellos, the music for Vivaldi's Four Seasons, and Bach's Violin Concerto in E Maojr with its accompanying string parts (I believe second violin, viola, and cello). THat would also be fun to play together... except that I'm nearly out of black ink.... =P
Well now back to schoolwork... see you Saturday, Lord willing!
I don't think there's going to be a huge crowd there on Saturday. I think Austin said something like 6 violins, 1 viola, 1 cello, 1-2 flutes, and 1 french horn. Jamie Kew won't be able to make it. :(
Austin already printed off the Brandenburg Cocertos so don't worry about those. I don't know what else he has, but he said they printed off over 300 pages of music the other day! I think they'll have a keyboard to fill in some of the missing parts like oboe, bassoon, and such.
On the way to lessons yesterday, we were listening to some music, and every other one Austin thought would be neat to play, but it sounded pretty impossible to me. For example, he suggested that Mrs. Kew could play the solo for the Mendelsohn E minor violin concerto. It's rediculously hard!! She's already done it but that was 30 years ago.
